Copyright Policy

Effective date: October 21, 2026

StudyFish respects copyright and expects its users to do the same. Materials students upload are private to their own accounts and are not published to anyone else. We still respond to valid notices of copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”), 17 U.S.C. § 512.

Reporting infringement

If you believe material on StudyFish infringes a copyright you own or are authorized to act for, send us a written notice that includes:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. a description of the copyrighted work you believe was infringed;
  3. a description of the material you believe is infringing, with as much information as you can to help us find it (for example, the file name or the account it was uploaded to, if you know them);
  4. your name, mailing address, phone number and email address;
  5. a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
  6. a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.

Where to send notices

Under the DMCA, anyone who knowingly makes a false claim of infringement may be liable for damages.

What we do when we receive a notice

When we receive a complete notice, we remove or disable access to the material and let the user who uploaded it know, including a copy of the notice.

Counter-notice

If you believe your material was removed by mistake or misidentification, you can send us a counter-notice at the same address that includes:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. a description of the material that was removed and where it appeared before it was removed;
  3. a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith the material was removed by mistake or misidentification;
  4. your name, address and phone number;
  5. a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you live outside the United States, any judicial district in which StudyFish may be found), and that you will accept service of legal process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.

We’ll forward your counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. If they don’t tell us within 10 business days that they’ve filed a court action to keep the material down, we’ll restore it within 10 to 14 business days after we received your counter-notice.

Repeat infringers

We close the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe others’ copyrights, in appropriate circumstances.
